Registration is under way!

We continue to adapt our program and curriculum to offer new ways to have fun and teach meaningful art practice and creative self-expression. The techniques and materials campers will be working with will deepen their artistic self expression and help with creative problem solving, collaboration, and resilience. Our instructors will share inspiration from art history, nature, books, neighborhood walks, and found objects.  We balance group activities that draw children out with individual creative time, drawing children inward to find their own voice and artistic style.

Online Camps All Summer

We will be offering online camps all summer long, hosted by our Youth Program Manager, Brianna Janssen Saldivar, who has guided Camp Brushstrokes for over five years. She has taught our online classes and camp since Shelter-in-Place and has been getting very positive feedback from parents and children. The camps you see listed by week on Activity Hero (below) will all be online camps. Registration is ongoing.
  • Our online camp will be week-long with morning and afternoon Zoom lessons (1.5 hours each) in which we will discuss concepts related to the week’s theme, guide the campers through their projects, and provide a warm and welcoming space for kids to connect with one another. We will also provide pre-recorded video instruction for fun (optional) activities and challenges, like drawing games and scavenger hunts, to keep campers active and inspired between lessons. Our Summer Workshops will also be available on line. These online camps and workshops will come with Home Activity Kits, which can be picked up and dropped off curbside at Brushstrokes.
  • Private groups available for guided online workshops and parties with home activity kits available for curbside pick up.
Brushstrokes understands that many families have been financially impacted by Covid and the shutdown. We are committed to our work of helping children to thrive with creativity, even in these difficult times. We thank those of you who are able to pay full tuition and we offer a discount to those needing it. Financial Aid available (for online camps only) for any family requiring a discount of 15%, 25% or 45% (the discount codes are FIFTEEN, TWENTY-FIVE, AND FORTY-FIVE). We are offering this on the basis of mutual trust and no supporting documentation is required.

In-person Camp for July

Additionally, the City of Berkeley April 29th announcement states that those of you who have been permitted to go back to work are also permitted to send your kids to camp (see p.9-11). Registration is now OPEN for our in-person camp which will be in stable groups of 12 kids or less and for four continuous weeks, from July 6-31. This guideline for stable groups of 12 or fewer for four weeks was initially provided by Alameda County Health Department on May 11 and then on May 27 was outlined in the City of Berkeley guidelines for camps. In order to ensure safety of the group, we will:
  • Modify our classroom setup and procedures to encourage social distancing
  • Intensify our cleaning and disinfection efforts
  • Limit shared materials (i.e. each camper will have their own set of brushes for the week)
  • Staff and campers will wear face coverings
  • Ask parents to take their child's temperature each day before coming to camp, and to stay home and notify us if anyone in their household falls ill
  • Modify our drop off and pick up procedures.
